Trump just gave a cynical two-faced response to the Florida school massacre

- Februari 14, 2018

In the aftermath of the latest of the now bi-weekly school shootings, Donald Trump couldn’t be bothered to muster the courage to go in front of the TV cameras and address the nation about how his administration will prevent the scourge of murderous gun violence.

Such an act would garner negative comparisons with the empathetic leadership of his hated predecessor Barack Obama who handled national outpourings of grief with grace, dignity, and sympathy. It would also majorly piss off the Republican NRA donors who help keep the party afloat with their copious campaign contributions.

Instead Trump took to his preferred medium of Twitter to comment on the latest atrocity with the typical GOP call for thoughts, prayers, and condolences and absolutely no plan of action to prevent future incidents like this from occurring again.

While it’s impossible to argue with his sentiment regarding the necessity of everyone in an American school to feel secure and safe, the fact that Republicans refuse to even discuss solutions to mass murder in the days when it’s most on everyone’s mind, always claiming “it’s not time” and “it’s too soon” as an excuse, means that no action is ever taken.

That’s exactly what the NRA wants, and with an average of two mass shootings a week in 2018, you can be sure that it will never be time in their eyes.

The inadequacy of Trump’s response was so obvious that he must have felt compelled to send another tweet shortly after the first, with a slight hint that maybe the government would be addressing the issue through local police, at least in Florida.

You can practically feel the desperate balancing act that Trump is attempting, trying to look like he’s on top of the situation with an actionable plan while simultaneously punting the responsibility to local law enforcement and state officials, so he won’t actually have to try to deal with the issue himself.

Judging from the responses to the President’s tweets, his strategy was not a successful as he may have hoped.

Not exactly the replies he was looking for. Please remember the reactions to the shootings and the subsequent response in Congress when you head to the polling place in November for the mid-term elections. The only way to stop the NRA’s pernicious control of the Republican party and their obstruction of meaningful gun legislation is to vote those under its control out of office.
