The Washington D.C city council just landed an epic dunk on Trump’s military parade plans

- Februari 07, 2018

President Trump’s idea to hold a giant military parade on the streets of the nation’s capitol on Veterans Day this November 11  has landed in the office of the Washington, D.C. mayor and most of the city council with the appeal of a stink bomb.

A spokesperson for Mayor Muriel Bowser noted there has been no formal outreach from the White House or the Pentagon about such a parade – yet – but said they were already ruling out the idea that the District would pick up any part of the tab for Trump’s parade.

“In the meantime,” said spokesperson Anu Rangappa, “we do know that, just like the wall, he will have to pay for it.

Rangappa was the making reference to the massive wall Trump wants to be built across the southern border with Mexico, which so far has met stiff resistance first from Mexico, which is not going to pay for it, and more recently from Congress.

Members of the District’s city council openly mocked Trump’s idea.

They even tweeted out a graphic of a “no tanks” symbol.

“The DC government will open on time today,” tweeted out the council. “DC Public Schools will open on time today. Sadly, the Giant Tank Prade is canceled. permanently.”

At a time the federal government is struggling to find the funds to pass an annual budget and multiple social programs are being cut, this is another Trumpian notion that is seen as a huge waste of time, money and resources.

Even worse, Trump’s parade is seen as something a petty dictator would demand to show his guns are bigger than the other guy’s guns, but that isn’t the American tradition.

The U.S. is a country that is strong and secure because it is a democracy where all the citizens stand together to protect the freedom, justice system and way of life – or at least they did until Trump arrived.

Parading guns, tanks and soldiers down the street might make Trump feel powerful, but that is because he is deluding himself.

America’s real power is in its people, its accomplishments, its cities, and farms, that for many years were a beacon to the rest of the world that this was the best place to live.

Now Trump is trampling on those traditions and to make it even worse, he wants to drive a tank over it and have boots walk on it just to show he is bigger than anything or anyone else.

He is wrong. He isn’t. And a parade will not change that.
