A Washington, D.C. lawyer and Islamic educator just went viral in his response to a hapless racist troll in his DMs.
Qasim Rashid, Esq. took a screen shot of his inbox and let the internet do the work.
An Islamophobe tried to troll me by sending me a picture of a Quran on fire.
— Qasim Rashid, Esq. (@MuslimIQ) February 8, 2018
The unidentified troll was obviously trying to make some kind of unintelligible anti-Muslim sentiment clear, but failed spectacularly trying to engage in meme warfare with Rashid, also a women’s rights and black lives matter activist.
The troll sent a photo of a Quran on fire, presumably to express his distaste for Islam. Joke’s on him, though. As Rashid pointed out, burning a Quran is actually the Sharia compliant way to dispose of a holy text you no longer need.
So in an effort to express racism, this troll actually just found a little bit of cultural understanding.
Hate crimes have increased in number not just since the beginning of the Trump Administration, but since the 2016 campaign as well. With racist-in-chief Donald Trump in office, bigots seem to feel empowered to come out of the shadows and express virulent views that are still deeply unacceptable.
Trump’s racist policy proposals aren’t helping. Between his multiple unlawful Muslim Bans and his racist ramping up of deportations by ICE, Trump has sent a message from the top that this kind of anti-minority behavior is not just OK, it’s the law of the land.
But it’s people like this lawyer, Qasim Rashid, who are keeping America safe from the people who’d try to make it “great.” His calm, cool, and intellectual response to some deep, dark racist id garbage is exactly how we should all try to fight back.
