Trump just responded to his own “shithole” comments and immediately made things worse

- Januari 12, 2018

The President of the United States took to Twitter this morning to fire off a swift and obviously insincere denial of the reports that he had referred to Haiti and other African nations as “shithole” countries.

In a typically Trumpian fashion, he managed to pour salt in the wound by mocking Haiti for being a very “poor” and “troubled” country – a country that is “poor and troubled” in no small part thanks to American support for the tyrannical Duvalier regime, which killed anywhere from 40,000 to 60,000 Haitians.

Since declaring independence in 1804, Haiti has faced a near constant barrage of interventions by colonial nations – including the United States – and subjected to the rule of dozens of brutal dictators, propped up by Western powers, who then drove the nation into debt and into the grasping claws of the International Monetary Fund. A slew of natural disasters have all played a role in Haiti’s instability – but the dirty fingerprint of American imperialism is all over this “poor, troubled” country.

The “take them out” comment refers to reporting by NBC News, which alleges that the President wanted to single out Haitians for deportation.

To cap it all off, Trump went even further into Nixonian territory and mused about “recording meetings” in the White House – a threat that would carry much more weight if he hadn’t already lied about recording his meeting with fired FBI director James Comey. No wonder there’s no trust.

It goes without saying that this is the worst possible way he could have tried to defend himself, since his answer does nothing to refute the accusations of racism that have been leveled against the President.

His stated preference for immigrants from countries like Norway make it clear that the issue at hand is one of race, and it is beyond despicable for the president of the United States to speak so callously of nations where millions of people live and thrive.

It’s no coincidence he only uses this language, heavily couched in terms of “cleanliness,” to speak of majority black nations. It reveals his white supremacist inclinations for all the world to see.
