Trump established the Commission on Election Integrity in May of last year, but not even a year later he’s shutting the whole thing down.
Trump announced this afternoon that he was dissolving the commission to investigate a non-existent problem.

Dan Pfeiffer, former Obama advisor, fired back with the thing we were all thinking.

Trump announced the council shortly into his presidency in 2016, taking time out from obsessing about the legitimacy of his win and falsely claiming widespread voter fraud accounted for Hillary Clinton’s winning the popular vote.
Only eight months into the commission’s existence, Trump’s issued an executive order to shut the whole thing down, along with a statement from the White House.
“Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic information relevant to its inquiry. Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed an executive order to dissolve the commission, and have asked the Department of Homeland Security to review these issues and determine next courses of action.”
Pfeiffer’s tweet rings so true, since the only reason for the Commission’s existence in the first place was to satisfy Trump’s desperate need to prove that Hillary was less popular than he was.
The commission failed after its requests for vast amounts of invasive information about voters were completely denied by state election officials and swiftly countered with invasion of privacy lawsuits.
Never one to bow out graciously, Trump manages to make this failure not about his completely bogus voter fraud claim, but about the lack of cooperation from anyone else. Doesn’t change the fact that if the commission to root out voter fraud couldn’t find any voter fraud, then it looks like Pfeiffer’s right.
Hillary did win the popular vote, and Trump just can’t forget it.
