The United States has somehow managed to survive an entire year with an incompetent conman in the Oval Office, but speculation rages as to how much longer the president himself will be able to last.
Trump’s mental facilities seem to be waning as his rhetoric becomes more jumbled and nonsensical, and his tenuous grasp of policy seems to be slipping even more. With the publication of Michael Wolff’s bombshell White House exposé Fire & Fury detailing an administration gripped by chaos, many are beginning to predict the end of the Trump presidency.
The new cover of TIME magazine makes it abundantly clear how the legacy publication sees Trump. The orange-skinned commander-in-chief is depicted with his trademark yellow hair as a blazing fire, threatening to engulf the entire page, accompanied by simple text: “Year One.”
A raging fire is a perfect metaphor for a year in which Trump has destroyed norms, undermined fundamental American institutions, and irreparably damaged the country’s reputation abroad.

TIME states that the cover was designed by artist Edel Rodriguez. Rodriguez said the flaming hair is an overt reference to Fire & Fury.
“We used to live where the United States was a pretty steady country, and now you wake up every day and try to figure out where’s the next fire, where do we have to go, what do we have to try to contain. It’s sort of this President that you’re always trying to contain, like a wildfire that’s moving from one place to the other at all times,” Rodriguez told TIME.
This latest cover is part of a series that Rodriguez has created for TIME, with two previous images depicting Trump in meltdown mode.

Rodriguez has stated that he found the cover art for Fire & Fury underwhelming, and provided an example of what he would have created for the book.
I've been asked what I would've done with the 'Fire and Fury' cover by some folks who think the existing cover design is a disaster and a missed opportunity, so here is what I might have done with it http://pic.twitter.com/xV8W3L8oYu

Rodriguez’s images are stunning and (unfortunately) perfectly evoke the state of disarray our country currently finds itself in. It seems to be a safe presumption that this won’t be the last time the artist takes a shot at our catastrophic president.
